as for HOW he did it - he bullied the Silver Alchemist into doing the array that he needed and making it so that when the stone and Kimblee come into contact in the array, it would activate. Greed then passed on a modified version to Archer, who used it on Roy.

Archer however, bullied Tucker into helping him with Roy.
